At GoldCare, our commitment to holistic health is showcased through our immersive Masterclasses. These sessions are designed to provide our members with cutting-edge insights and practical knowledge to enhance their well-being. In a previous class, we had the privilege of learning from Dr. Patty McCarthy, a board-certified naturopathic doctor and licensed Texas attorney. Her presentation on the emotional causes of chronic disease was both enlightening and transformative, shedding light on the profound connection between our emotional health and physical well-being.
Our class highlighted the undeniable link between the mind and body, a relationship often overlooked in traditional allopathic medicine. Despite thousands of years of evidence supporting this connection, modern medicine continues to treat the mind and body as separate entities. Dr. McCarthy emphasized that understanding this connection is crucial for addressing chronic diseases effectively.
The discussion also touched on the role of the subconscious mind in our overall health. According to research, our subconscious mind processes forty million bits of data per second, far surpassing the conscious mind's capacity. This ability becomes a problem when the subconscious mind operates on pre-programmed negative thoughts, especially related to chronic stress. Dr. McCarthy noted that 95% of our daily activities are influenced by our subconscious mind, which significantly impacts our health.
Dr. McCarthy provided compelling evidence on how emotions affect our health. She cited a 2004 Canadian study that included psychosocial factors—emotions and mental distress—as significant risk factors for heart disease, almost on par with smoking. This study underscores the critical role emotions play in our physical health.
Three primary ways our emotions negatively impact health were identified: trauma, toxins, and thoughts. Trauma, in particular, if not processed, can become trapped in our bodies and contribute to chronic diseases. Negative thoughts, often stemming from unregulated emotions, can trigger a constant state of fight or flight, leading to immune system suppression and various health issues.
The concept of epigenetics was also explored. Epigenetics reveals that while we cannot change our genes, we can influence their expression through lifestyle and emotional health. This understanding empowers us to take control of our health by managing our thoughts and emotions effectively.
Dr. McCarthy shared practical tools for managing negative emotions and promoting positive ones. Techniques such as neuroplasticity, cognitive behavioral therapy, relaxation, and breathing exercises can help reframe negative thoughts and improve overall health. By consistently practicing these techniques, we can rewrite our subconscious programming, leading to better health outcomes.
